Experience Avalon School
Step inside a teacher-powered, learner-driven public charter middle and high school where shared decision-making and governance shape how educators lead and young people design their own learning. Since opening in 2001, Avalon has paired teacher-powered governance with project-based learning, giving students real ownership over what and how they learn. Its work also extends beyond the school through the Minnesota Learner-Centered Network (MLCN), a nonprofit working across the state to partner and collaborate with schools developing their learner-centered approach.
During this visit, you will experience:
-
Learner-led projects that start with interests and build toward competencies
-
How shared leadership works in practice
-
A design that serves more than 40% of learners have IEPs
And more!
